2023 marked the 150th year of the iconic Levi’s 501®, the world’s first blue jean. What started as a necessary and practical clothing item, the blue jean has become a vital part of historic moments as well as a beloved symbol of rebellion, American ideals, and self-expression. Please join us for Levi’s ® & Social Movements for Change, an evening of history, fashion, and conversation about the remarkable moments…and clothing staple…that continue to shape our American identity. Meg Honey will join Tracey Panek, Levi Strauss & Co. Historian and Director of Archives, for a presentation and discussion about the social and political history of jeans, their important historical legacy, and their forever place in our daily lives.
Program sponsors are East Bay Times, Minuteman Press, and Friends of the Walnut Creek Library.
